CHRONOGRAPH WATCHES: INNOVATION OF A QUEEN

The art of Chronograph watch making was enhanced in 1783 when Queen Marie-Antoinette of France ordered A.L.  Brequet of Paris to make a superior watch with all known complications.

On October 16th, 1793, Queen Marie-Antoinette of France was led to the guillotine; she would never see the Berquet watch completed.  The Queen owned many of the master watchmaker’s designs and recommended Brequet to the court’s most exalted quests.  The “Marie-Antoinette” watch made by Brequet would become an important object for collectors and museums.

Today women’s chronograph watches usually display Day Date, and Day of Week complications.

The most sought after chronograph fashion watches are designed by Michael Kors who recently introduced “Rose Gold” chronograph

big face watch styles.  Before Michael Kors popularity the Rolex’s Day Date watch was the top seller chronograph complication watch for women sold in the USA.
